Another Vortex 3D Engine powered App has reached the App Store.

MD2 Library is a model viewer that allows you to visualize and animate 3D models.

From the App’s description:

MD2 Library allows you to select a model from a list, then select an animation and see 3D models come to life on your iPad! Interact with your models by swiping and pinching over them! The application comes with four built-in modes to get you started right away. You can also sync your own models using iTunes!

So what makes this App so special? This is the first Application completely designed, implemented and published by us. It is powered by Vortex Engine 1.0 and support devices ranging from the original iPad running iOS 3.2 to the iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.

Feature List:

  • Visualize and Animate Models in Realtime.
  • Interact with your models using natural gestures.
  • Works on any iPad, supports iOS 3.2 – 5.0
  • Sync your own models using iTunes.
  • Comes with four prebuilt models to get you started right away.
  • Powered by Vortex 3D Engine.
  • Completely Free!

The First App powered by Vortex-Engine 1.0 has hit the App Store just today!

We are very excited about having our customers rely on Algorithmia’s technology to provide the 3D visual capabilities at the core of their immersive App!

According to the App Store description:

The 3D viewer displays some real objects on an exhibit floor. The in-world navigation is immersive, using 3D sensing.

The user manipulates the model through “air gestures”, by pointing the device around oneself.

The user may observe some details more closely through “touch gestures”. A two-finger pinch will zoom in while a double tap will start a walk-in tour.

Browse the 360 Traveler page in the App Store for more information and screenshots.

New project in the Medicine field

On June 1, 2011, in Announcements, by admin

Today we are starting a new project in the field of medicine.

We are developing a brand new application from scratch that will aid the process of visual comparison between samples. The application will be developed mostly in Python, with some modules coded in C, and will leverage OpenGL to provide cutting edge visualization capabilities.

We are very excited about this new engagement and look forward to working with our Partners to produce this revolutionary application.

Vortex-Engine powers iOS Project

On February 18, 2011, in Announcements, Vortex-Engine, by admin

Algorithmia has recently closed a contract for the development of a 3D application that targets iOS devices. Our customer has licensed our internal technology in order to help reduce costs and meet their goals.

As exciting as targeting iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPod Touch is, there is another reason that makes this project a landmark in our company’s history. For the very first time, all of the 3D graphics capabilities of the project we’re working on will be powered by our own internal 3D Engine: Vortex.

The Vortex-Engine, developed internally at Algorithmia, is a complete solution for cross-platform realtime 3D graphics. Vortex provides all the primitives necessary for computing, animating and displaying our customer’s geometric data in realtime on devices that range from a cellphone’s integrated video card up to the latest NVIDIA Fermi device.

If you want to learn more about this project and about the Vortex-Engine, subscribe to our RSS feed to keep current with our latest announcements or follow us on Twitter at: @algorithmiadev.

We are very glad to announce that the Introductory CUDA article we wrote for RealityFrontier (and that was published by the Linux Journal Magazine) is now available for online reading.

You can access the article here: http://goo.gl/jFz3z; it features an introduction to Parallel Programming using the NVIDIA CUDA technology and some cool screenshots made using a renderer we developed specifically for representing the concepts being treated in the article.

We can also provide links to the full source code used for the benchmarks, in case you want to have a look at it.
